Nutcracker Cubensis – Spore Swab Set of 2

Origin Info: Nutcracker is a TAT mutation. In 2020, “Myco Clay” a Trusted Cultivator of the Shroomery.org, started isolating a mutation from a Yeti culture. Over 15 generations phenotypes showing extremely wrinkled caps, with severe bruising, ridges, bumps and wavy blue cap edges were isolated. This variant was dubbed “Nutcracker” in lieu of the originally conjured, less appealing name “Nutsack”. Nutcracker was released to the public on March 5th, 2021 via the Shroomery Facebook page, and retail sales followed on the Myco Market Facebook page. Quote: “I figured most people I knew wouldn’t be too keen on eating a Penis Envy, and a Nutsack. I noticed that the texture not only showed similarities to shrivelled up balls, but also showed similarities to the texture of walnuts, or pecans.”

Habitat: Bovine, Equine Dung and Enriched Soils

Climate: Subtropical

Cap: 25-65 mm in diameter, convex to broadly convex to plane at maturity. White flesh maturing to light blue and dark blue at maturity.

Stem: 20-85 mm in length, white flesh bruising blue with a light green undertone where injured. Occasional partial veil remnants on the stem. Frequently partial veil remnants stick to the perimeter of the cap, leaving a web-like ring around the outermost underside cap area. *Note, not all Nutcracker fruit bodies have veil remnants.

Gills: Attachment adnate to adnexed. Opalescent white coloration in young fruit bodies becoming dark blue nearing a black hue in late stages of maturity.

Spores: Translucent/Albino spores
